Canal Winchester was founded in 1811 and boomed in the days of the Erie Canal. The Erie Canal ran through the downtown area from 1831 through 1902. Today, Canal Winchester has all the character of a Midwestern small town with roots in agriculture, transportation and commerce. It is one of the fastest growing areas in Central Ohio and is located 15 miles to the southeast of downtown Columbus.
